Mitchell Woollard What did you want to be when you we're growing up? I wasn’t sure, but my Dad wanted me to be a fighter pilot.  I went for an interview at 15 years old and was informed by the RAF that I was too tall for fighter jets, so that idea ended pretty swiftly. What did you study? I was a great ‘O’ level student, passing Mathematics with an A grade one year early, I went on to study Mathematics and the Sciences at ‘A’ level, but found I was not a natural student and didn’t get to University. How did you initially start your career? After many ‘jobs’, my career started when I was in my late 20’s. Project Management was generally acknowledged as the main driver for AD2000 solutionsand I was in the right Technology Department at the right time of a business that desperately needed a strong AD2000 solution. What do you like most about what you do? Since my early days of Project Management I have developed into a General Management role, but I always find that the real pleasures in work are still seeing yourself execute on the basics, i.e. achieving milestones and deliverables day by day, just as you would track as a PM on a project plan. What advice could you give someone wanting to start a career in project management? Project Management is an enabler for others to do, it is the glue that holds things together and as such often it is not consider specialist and the role that receives all the rewards and kudos.  But as it does train you in enablement, communication and teamwork, it is the best vehicle to take for senior leadership.

What did you want to be when you were growing up? Happy! I was told to always take subjects that interested me and study things I was passionate about so I was less focused career-wise, although I did think maybe law or journalism ..and when lots of my friends at Durham were making moves towards Finance and Management Consultancy, I was still unsure and got work experience radio ..and it all started there. What did you study? English Lit at Durham University & then a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism at London College of Printing. How did you initially start your career? It is such a broad field..and only one I've been in with the specific 'Change Project Manager' title for the past 6 months, but I think there are so many different types of Project Manager..so find out your style, maybe try and shadow some different PMs to see how and what they’re working on, get trained on tools and things which might be useful to you, be creative, encourage lateral and collaborative discussions, be true to yourself and stay real!

Project Management is simply like traveling by Aeroplane, and as project manager you are the captain, your role is not only to reach with your team "Auto pilot can do this", but you MUST use your skills and experience to reach with all your colleagues and passengers safely, on time, with no damages to either your company or Airports you're either taking off from or landing on.
